Mrs. Hardman, a blind elderly woman called 911 because she was alone and worried about a fire starting. She asked the emergency operator to send someone out to make sure that her microwave was okay.
“It’s not uncommon to get a call — well, it’s the first microwave I’ve ever fixed — but it’s not uncommon for the elderly to need some help; there is just no one to help them and they don’t know who else to call,” Police officer Kristian Johnson said “And if they call us, we go — that’s just what we do.”
After Officer Johnson verified that everything was safe and he returned to the kitchen. Mrs.Hardman was concerned that her microwave wasn’t working. So Officer Johnson took a peek at it, cleared the error message and made sure that everything was working properly.
Soon after, it became obvious that Mrs.Hardman had something else in mind.
“Is there anything else I can do for you?” Officer Johnson asked.
Mrs. Hardman responded, “Do you sing?”
“No, I — I don’t, I’m not a good singer,” Officer Johnson tried to explain.
Mrs Hardman coerced him by saying, “You could start now!”

That’s when Officer Johnson realized that Mrs. Hardman was expecting him to sing — not asking.
“I realized right then and there that she expects a song, and I can’t say no to this lady.”
Officer Johnson had no choice but to sing. He offered Frank Sinatra but the woman requested “You Are My Sunshine” instead!
You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are gray
You’ll never know dear, how much I love you
Please don’t take my sunshine away
