Co-parenting after a separation can be so difficult for most families, but this mom shows how to do it flawlessly. We don’t always hear about the success stories of blended families. We usually hear about the dramatic feuds and the battle of “the ex’s”. Most cases are that the parents are vengeful, that they don’t pay attention to how their actions have a direct impact on the children involved with the relationships.
Haley Booth and her family, however, goes against the grain. They made it their priority to work together to establish how things should be in best interest of their children and the internet is loving it.
A Facebook post went viral of a mother her sharing her experience with co-parenting. She posted a picture of her and her daughter’s step-mom as they walked their daughter, Rachel to her classroom for school.
“No child deserves to be tossed around back and forth, used as a bargaining chip, or to be put in the middle of any adult drama. She didn’t choose to be born, and she certainly never chose for her parents to get divorced”, Hayley writes in her post.
Walking down the hallway, Rachel is full of excitement on her first day of school. Imagine Rachel gleaming as she wears her pink “Frozen” backpack and has both of her mommies holding her hand on each side.
“I see so many women say ‘I would never let my child call another woman mom or mommy, because she’s NOT her mom I AM!'” I would never tell my daughter she can’t call her bonus mommy ‘mommy’ because it would hurt her deeply. She is her mommy not only when she spends time with her dad, but all the time.”
Rachel’s mom writes about how she co-parents with her ex-husband Caleb and his wife Dakota. She refers to his wife, Dakota as the endearing term, “bonus mommy” to Rachel.
“My daughter isn’t the only one who loves her bonus mommy, I love her too. She’s become one of my best friends and I rely on her for many things. She is one of the strongest people I know, and I am thankful for her every day.”
Dakota plays a vital role in Rachel’s life. She teaches her, spends time with her, and is a strong influence on Rachel. Hayley says that Rachel is not the only one who loves Dakota, but she loves Dakota just as much.
“Don’t tell me that peaceful co-parenting isn’t possible because it is. I know it is. Because I do it every day”.
There is no manual on how to be a family after two parents decide to part ways. But when parents bonds over making their child the main goal, it makes things a whole lot easier.
“It takes a village to raise a child, and I am beyond thankful for my village!”
