Some say that if you choose a job that you love, you will never have to work a day in your life. This has proven to be true for Florence “SeeSee” Rigney. This 91-year-old still serves in her local hospital. She has the time of her life working as a Registered Nurse and helping others.
Now, SeeSee has the honor of being one of the longest practicing nurses in the United States! Not only that, her coworkers praise her for still being one of the fastest, sharpest nurses on the floor despite her age.
“Since I was a little girl, it was something that I always wanted to do.”
SeeSee began her career as a nursing student in 1946 and has worked at her current hospital for more than 70 years. Her co-workers describe her as a “go-getter”. She is up before the sun comes up and is quick on her feet.
See-See makes it very clear that she does not like to be bored. She continues to work two days a week in the Operating Room (O.R.).
“I think it’s helped keep me mentally alert…I’ve also had to learn the computer ’cause all our charting has gone to computers!”
You can spot SeeSee running from one end of the hospital to the next wearing. She typically wears blue surgical scrubs as she prepares operating rooms for doctors. Even with a bad knee, she does not slow down.
I love nursing, I just wish I could do more,” she says to NBC.
Caring for others is what motivates SeeSee to keep working. She stays current with her licenses and certifications. In a video that one of her co-workers recorded at SeeSee’s office birthday celebration, you can hear SeeSee tell everyone that she went to get her CPR certification renewed.

This devoted nurse has no plans of slowing down anytime soon!
“I just feel very honored that they’ll still let me work,” she said to NBC News.
When asked what she would tell a first-time nurse, SeeSee quickly says,
“Care for the patients…Patient comes first.”

“I feel pretty good about getting older…I am still learning and experiencing new things everyday. You never stop learning. Age is not just a number, it’s a badge of all my life experiences,” he told Huffington Post.
