Fish and Chips: This Adventure-Loving Feline Duo Will Make You Smile
This adorable traveling feline duo are a match made in Heaven. Adopted at separate times, you wouldn’t know they haven’t been together their entire lives.
Lindsay Richards and Lain Roby knew they wanted a four-legged companion but both loving the outdoors knew it had to be an active animal that could accompany them on their trips. Originally Roby wanted a canine companion but after surfing the Adventure Cats website was convinced by Lindsay that a cat could be a great hiking companion!
“Fish” was a well-sought after kitty. When Lindsay and Lain decided they would adopt a kitten to be their new traveling buddy, they struggled to find the right one. That’s when an online search led them to a 6-week-old litter in another city. After observing the new kitten family, there was one orange boy that stuck out to them.
Lindsay recalls that at only 6 weeks only, he was “very alert and curious — a little ball of energy!” Two weeks later, Richards and Roby took Fish home.
When he was just 3 months old, Fish went on his first big adventure. Richards and Roby took a 10-day road trip down the coast of Canada into the U.S. and Fish happily navigated.
Fish was in need of more attention than Richard and Roby could give. They knew he needed a feline companion. What they didn’t plan on was that a trip to the store for cat litter would lead them to another love-at-first-sight moment.
“There was just no way we were leaving without Chips once I saw him.”
In typical kitty fashion, it was not love-at-first-sight for the two felines. They took a few days to warm up to each other, but before long they were snuggling and best of friends. Each has a very distinct personality – Fish is very active and can be quite the trouble maker where Chips is very mellow and cuddly. Once past initial introductions, they balance each other very well.
This feline duo has quickly settled into their role as “adventure cats”. They love their leash-led walks through the countryside. Not everyone has a cat that wants to be on a harness though. Both Fish and Chips were started very early with leash training and have learned that it means they get to go on an adventure…often including treats!
“[Fish] has never had an issue with it, and sometimes he even forgets it’s there. He [is] much too excited to be out in the world to be worried about a little harness.”
When the kitties are on a long hike with their human companions, they sometimes will get tired which means an added bonus of getting to ride in the backpacks that Richards and Roby bring with them. All the joy of seeing the world and having the sunshine on their face – all while traveling in style!
The family recently moved to Vancouver Island. Chips fell right in step with being the trip navigator!
“We’re all very excited for more adventures and new places to explore on the island,” Richards said.
Fish and Chips, the happy trail-trekking kitties have an Instagram following of their adventures. There is no mountain too high for these two! We can’t wait to see all the places they will go!
