This Grandpa’s Life Is Changed When His Granddaughter Gives Him A Reason To Live
When Alzheimer’s began stealing the Grandfather she loved, Akiko Dupont made a bold move to save her Grandpa’s life by getting him a feline companion.
Photographer Akiko Dupont has been chronicling her Grandfather’s life with Alzheimers Disease. She told Fox KTVU news:
“The once outgoing man gradually lost his interest in life and became grumpier than ever.”
It wasn’t long after his diagnosis that Akiko brought home a 4 month old kitten she adopted. She wasn’t sure how her grandfather “Jiji” would take to the new companion.
He was always more fond of dogs than cats. But when she introduced Kinako the timid orange tabby, Akiko saw her grandfather light up.
“Who would have thought that a timid kitten would befriend a grumpy old man!” DuPont asks.
Since their first meeting the two have been inseparable. Kinako has been a life saver for Jiji. They are the best of friends and obviously enjoy each other’s company!
When it’s time for Jiji’s favorite past time to clip coupons, Kinako is there. If watching television or having a nap, the kitty is a willing companion. This pair prove that the bond between an animal and their human can be the very best medicine!
