Martin Strel May Be May Be World’s Best Athlete You Never Heard of

Martin Strel is 62 years old and admits he doesn’t have your traditional athlete’s body, but he may be the world’s best athlete.

Martin is a marathon swimmer, and what he is able to do is beyond remarkable. He laughs that even Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps cannot swim the way that he does, and he’s right!

Strel holds successive Guinness World Records for swimming the Danube river, the Mississippi River, the Yangtze River, and the Amazon River. His motto is “swimming for peace, friendship and clean waters.” – wikipedia

Martin has survived piranha attacks, and broken nearly every long-distance swimming record there is, swimming for up to 68 continuous days. He once lost 40 pounds on a single one of his swims! And while most people’s bodies simply couldn’t endure that level of activity, Martin baffles doctors by not just surviving, but thriving.
